It’s Pickleball — a popular game in the US — which is a hybrid of lawn tennis and badminton, with some elements of tennis as well. Using a racquet similar to an enlarged table-tennis bat and a perforated plastic ball the size of a tennis ball, the game is usually played on badminton courts in housing estates and community centres (CCs). Played by two or four players at a time, its rules are similar to that of tennis while points are scored in the same way as in a badminton game. Players race to score 11, 15 or 21 points to win a match. A versatile and family-oriented game, its largely low-impact nature has also attracted a following of slightly older players. The Singapore Pickle-ball Association (SPA), for instance, currently has a membership of 150 players, most of whom are over 35 years of age. More... (Feb. 26, 2011 Kalyan, India) Thane District Pickleball Association (TDPA) had a surprise guest on Saturday in the form of none other than 58-year-old, 6 feet 4 inch tall Douglas Smith, president of Pickleball Inc, Seattle, USA. Soft-spoken Smith was impressed by the rousing reception extended by enthusiastic pickleball freaks that converged at Sacred Heart School at Kalyan.
There are more than 250 acres set aside for new development at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. And this spring, the staff is working on the idea of bringing down an event for a fast-growing, new sport: Pickleball. We're guessing Disney could fit six, maybe even 12, Pickleball courts inside one of its fieldhouses for a round-robin tournament. And I, for one, can't wait for that SportsCenter highlight reel. 
What sport is a mix of table-tennis, badminton and tennis? Answer: Pickle-ball. Originating from the United States, the game has been gaining steady popularity here since its introduction in the late 1980s.
